According to a report in BU Today, BU defenseman Max Nicastro was arrested for sexual assault early this morning. Nicastro has been suspended from the team for an undisclosed amount of time. He has not been kicked of the team like Corey Trivino was earlier this season, for a similar incident.
BU police are still working on the investigation, but currently Nicastro is being held on $25,000 bail and will be arraigned in a Brighton District Court on Tuesday. The alleged incident happened early this morning (Sunday) on the BU campus and was said to have involved a female student. There was no mention if alcohol was involved, but it would not shock me if it was.
Last night, Nicastro picked up his third goal of the season on a power play. In 27 games played, the Junior defenseman has 9 points.
Looking Ahead
BU has two games at Vermont this upcoming weekend, and without Max, the defense will really have to step up. The Terriers could get freshman defenseman Alexx Privitera back in the lineup soon as Saturday, but a more realistic timetable for his return would be vs Northeastern the following weekend. Privitera suffered a broken wrist in the last weekend of January against Maine and ha been out ever since.
In the meantime, Garret Noonan and Adam Clendening will have to shoulder the bulk of the load. Also, Ryan Ruikka and Sean Escobedo will be looked upon to pick up their respective play. BU has been without Nicastro before this year after he suffered a shoulder injury in the same game Privitera was hurt in. BU went 1-1-0 without Max in the lineup, including a 4-1 win at Merrimack.
***More to come in the next few days***
