Lets Review The Week

The week started on Tuesday night when the Terriers and Harvard Crimson played won of the most thrilling games of the season. Saturday marked the return of Red Hot Hockey in Madison Square Garden where the Terrier took on #8 Cornell.

Tuesday game was the first of the Terrier comebacks. Down a goal with 19.2 left in the third David Warsofsky took a slapper that was tipped in by Zach Cohen. BU would win the game in overtime when Nick Bonino (photo #13) attempted a wrap-a-round that went wide. The puck found  Joe Pereira who then ended the game by putting the puck in the Harvard net.

In Red Hot Hockey the Terriers found them selves down 3-1 at the start of the third period. BU cut the Cornell lead to 3-2 when Nick Bonino pick up the puck at center ice and skated it in on a two on one with Chris Connolly (photo #12). Bonino tried to pas it to Connolly. But instead the puck hit a Cornell stick and went in. The Terriers would tie the game when Chris Connolly jammed home a rebound with only 52.3 seconds left.

BU comes back to tie Cornell

In front of 18,200 fans at Madison Square Garden last night the Terriers and Big Red tie 3-3 in yet another comeback.

Cornell gabbed the lead only two and half minutes into the first period,on the power play. The goal came after the Terriers blocked several Cornell shots. Sean Whitney pick up the puck in the right wing circle off one of the blocked shots and fired it past BU goalie Grant Rollheiser. From my point of view it looked like a very weak goal. It looked like all Rollheiser had to do was put his glove up to block the shot.

Cornell would get a second goal before the end of the first when Locke Jillson scored on a brake-away. The Terriers Cory Trivino took a shot and Cornell's Patrick Kennedy grabbed the rebound a made a perfect  past to Jillson. That caught the Terriers deep in their own zone which sprang Jillson who beat Rolliesrer five hole.

After that Terrier's head coach Jack parker used his time out. After Parker called the timeout BU out played the Big Red in all fazes of the game.

In the Second Cornell had a power play the would end up having two goals scored during the man advantage. No it was not a five minute major. David Warsofsky took the puck into the Cornell zone to kill some time. Warsofsky took what seemed to be an innocent slap shot on goal. Instead when Cornell goalie Ben Scrivens tried to stop it with his leg, he tipped it and the puck ended up in the back of the net. With the goal Warsofky is tied for the most short handed goals in the country with two.

As I said there where two goals scored on the Cornell power play, this time on the Big Red side. Whitney took a slap shot that got deflected right on to the stick of a wide open Blake Gallagher who slid it in giving Cornell their two goal lead back.

In the third the Terriers would once comeback and tie the game. BU took their first step in the comeback process when Nick Bonino took the puck away at center ice and skated in to the zone. Bonino tried to pass it over to Connolly but instead the puck hit off a Cornell stick and in to the goal.

With 1:58 left the Terriers had a 5 on 3 man advantage for 39 seconds. Parker decided to pull Rollhieser and give the Terriers a six skater.

The move paid off because with 51.2 seconds left the Terrier's Chris Connolly scored in a large scrum in front of the net to tie the game at three.

Game Day Preview: BU & Cornell at MSG

Today the Terriers, and the Big Red of the University of Cornell, will play in the Red Hot Hockey game. This is a showcase game that will be played in front of 18,000+ in Madison Square Garden. The game is named Red Hot Hockey because both schools sport red in their uniforms. This is only the second time BU and Cornell have played in the Red Hot Hockey game. The last was in 2007 when the Terrier won 6-3.

The video is of the last Red Hot Hockey back in 2007.

Cornell, on the season is 6-2-0, and in second place in the ECAC. They are only behind Quinnipiac, the surprise of the season, in my mind. Cornell has win's over Niagara, Dartmouth, Harvard, Brown, Princeton, and Colgate. The losses were against Yale, Quinnipiac and an exhibition loss to the USA under 18 team.

The Terrier are coming off a thrilling win in overtime at Harvard. Bu is 4-7-1 on the season with wins over Michigan, Umass Lowell, Merimack, and Harvard. The tie came against UNH.

I will be at the game with my camera and will offer a pictoral of the game.

Lets go back
Through the  history of both Cornell and BU there has bean a thick rivalry between the tow schools. Back before the creation of Hockey East the Terriers and Big Read would paly each other three times a year in the ECAC. The rivalry was at is peak in the late '6os and early '70s when the two schools battled in two NCAA national title games. Cornell beat the Terriers 4-1 in 1967 and BU got Revenge in 1972 by beating the Big Red by the same score.

Injury Report

Finally a week ware everyone should be in the line up. For much of the season the Terriers have been slammed with injury's. It looked like on Tuesday when BU went to play Harvard that maybe they would have a full line up. The only question was Chris Connolly who missed both the New Hampshire games with a separated shoulder. Turns out that Connolly would score the game winning goal in overtime to beat Harvard. The one player that did not play was Alex Chiasson (photo) who was out with the flu. Chiasson, the teams leading goal scorer, should be back in the line up this Saturday night when the Terrier will head to Madison Square Garden to Play Cornell University in the Red Hot Hockey Game.

Terriers Grab Gill

On Thursday the Terriers picked up a highly skilled forward named Sahir Gill. Gill joined a 2010 recruit class that is already full of talent.

Gill is from Abbotsford British Columbia, the same town that former Terrier David Van Der Gulik was from. BU, North Dakota, and Minnesota where Gills final three picks. USHR recently said that Gill was "a quick, skilled 5'10, 180 left shot forward"

Last season Gill was on the first line of the Vernon Vipers as a rookie. He had 18 goals and 21 assist in 54 games. Current Terrier Ryan Santana played with Gill during the Vipers Jr. Canadian Cup championship run last season.

Gill said to a local blog in Chicago, The real Okanagan Hockey Academy Blog
"Committing to a team like Boston University is very exciting, they have a great program there, and it was just the right fit for me. Playing in Hockey East is something I'm looking forward to, but my focus right now is on the Chicago Steel and working hard every game to help us have success."
Gill Joins Charlie Coyel, Yasin Cisse, Matt Nieto, and Adam Clendening in the 2010 recruit class.

Terriers Win A Thriller In Overtime To Beat Harvard

The Terriers and Crimson played one of the most exciting games of the season tonight in which the Terriers won in overtime.

The photo is of the Terriers celebrating the game winning goal.

In the first the Terriers took the lead on the power play when Nick Bonino found Max Nicastro who took a shot that produced a rebound. Joe Pereira jumped on the rebound and scored to give the Terriers a 1-0 lead. Six Minutes later, Harvard would tie the game when they got some luck from the ref when the puck hit off his skate and resulted in a golden scoring chance in which Conor Morrison pounced on it for his first of four goals on the night. Harvard would get their first of four leads on the night when Kieran Millan gave up the weakest goal of the season when Alex Killorn threw a back-hander on net and Millan missed it with his blocker. The Terriers would tie the game while they were on a five minute power play. David Warsofsky took a shot from the point that was tipped in by Zach Cohen.

In the second Morrison scored his second goal of the game when a he found a rebound in which he back-handed into the net. The Terriers would go 3 for 3 on the power play when Pereira knocked home another rebound, this time from a Kevin Sattenkirk shot.

The third period saw Morrison score his third goal once again on a back hand shot from the slot that beat Millain high glove side. Bu would once again tie the game when Pereira tried a wrap-a-round that ended up in front of the Harvard net and Nick Bonino picked up the rebound and scored.

It looked as if Harvard had the game in the bag when they scored with only 1:18 left in the third. The Crimson scored when Morrison got a pass in the slot from Chris Hexley in which he one time into the back of the net.

The Terriers pulled Millain with about 40 seconds left. BU would tie the game with 19.5 seconds left when David Warsofsky took a shot that was tipped in by Zach Cohen.

BU would win the game in overtime when  Nick Bonino attempted a wrap-a-round that was stopped. The puck got through to a waiting Chris Connolly who found the back of the net and gave the Terrier the win in overtime.
“We were fortunate enough to get it down low, cycling the puck,” Connolly said. “Nick got it in his favorite position, and I knew it was going to either go in or pop out to the other side. There was a scrum in front, so I figured I’d just wait off to the side and see what happened. I got lucky. It popped right there, and I had a wide open net.”

Game Day Preview: BU @ Harvard

Tonight the Terriers and Harvard Crimson will play the in annual Tuesday before Thanksgiving game. Last season the tow teams did not meet on this day and it was the first time in a while that the game did not take place. Tonight's game will be played at the Bright Hockey Center home of the Harvard Crimson.

Through the early going of the season the Crimson like the Terrier have struggled. Harvard has a record of 1-4-2 with the lone win coming against Dartmouth whom they beat 5-3. Harvard is coming off a tie at Clarkson and a loss to the Skating Saints of the University of St. Lawrence. The Terrier on the other hand probably played their best game of the season on saturday when they tied UNH 3-3. It should be a close one but I think that the Terriers pull this one out.

The Last Time They Met
The last time the Terriers played the Crimson was in the Beanpot semi finals. The Terrier won the game 4-3 on a power play goal By Jason Lawrence. Harvard did have a 2-0 lead going into the second period only to see it disappear as the game went on.
Click here for a video recap of the Beanpot Final.

Looking Back
Last night former Terrier Matt Gilroy scored his third goal of the season on a wrist shot. This gave the New York Rangers a 6-3 lead at the time.

Terriers Avoid Sweep With a TIe

Tonight the Terriers and Wildcats skated to a 3-3 tie in front of 6,150 at Agganis Arena.

The Terrier goal scorers were David Warsofski, Vinny Saponari, and Cory Trivino. Paul Thompson had a pair and Phil DeSimone scored for UNH. Making just his second start of the season in the Terrier net Grant Rollheiser played his best game of his collegiate career. He is shown making a blocker save on one of the many UNH power plays.

UNH forward Paul Thompson scored his first of two on the night at 5:22 of the first period. This would give the Wildcats a 1-0 lead.
“The first one was kind of a fluke,” Thompson said. “I just threw it on net; I was trying to throw it to Bob [Butler] , and it hit a stick, went off one of their guys and went over [Rollheiser’s] blocker.”
Bu tied the game at 14:56 when Nick Bonino found the puck on the left wing boards passed Alex Chiasson who then found David Warsofsky (playing forward tonight in place of the missing Chris Connolly) in the middle of the slot. Warsofsky was able to one time the shot the beat Brian Foster low blocker side.

The second period offered some very great plays as well as some awful ones. Nether of the teams paid for their suckage. The Terrier picked up the only goal of the frame when Vinny Saponari pulled of a spin-o-rama in the middle of the left face-off dot. This left a him with a less than great angle to shoot at, but Vinny took the shot any way and beat Foster blocker side. Foster started to slid over to the other side leaving Vinny a sliver of net to shoot at and thats right where he put the puck. With that goal the Terriers took a 2-1 lead into the dressing room.

Less than 30 seconds into the third UNH tied the game on the power play when Bobby Butler's shot was stopped by Grant Rollheiser. This created a rebound that Phil DeSimone roofed in to the net. four minutes later UNH took the lead when Matt Campanale blasted a slapper from the point which was tipped by Paul Thompson and beat Rollheiser who never saw the puck get tipped.

The Terrier would tie the game once again this time on the power play. Kevin Shattenkirk got the puck on the point, from there he found an open Cory Trivino in the right wing circle who had all  six feet of net shoot at.

In overtime the Terrier had the best chance to win the game. Cory Trivino and Andrew Glass had a two on one with 3:00 left. Foster made the save and the game ended in a tie.

Lets not panic
I know that Bu is second to last in Hockey East right now but the Terrier are only five point behind the leader UNH. Over the weekend the Terrier proved that they can hang with the Wildcats and BU could have won tonight. The Terrier have 5 point in the league and UNH has 10.

Cats Bite Dogs

Tonight the Terrier lost their seventh game of the season to UNH 4-2. The game was full of penalties, mainly on the Terrier side. Zach Cohen (photo) and Ross Gaudet scored for the Terriers.

Freshman John Henrion scored his first collegiate goal the game winer goal on a 5-3 power play 8:07 of the second period.

With the loss the Terrier fall to 3-7-0 on the season the worst start since the 2000-2001 season when the Terrier stared 2-8-1.

Tomorrow the Terriers will again attempt to avoid the sweep at home in Agganis Arena

Weekend Preview: BU & UNH

Last weekend the Terrier and Wildcats split series. The Terriers split with Merrimack and New Hampshire split with Umass. As a result of last weeks series slits both UNH froward Bobby Butler and Bu forward Chris Connolly were named co Hockey East players of the week. Speaking of Connolly it is very unlikely that he will see any action over the weekend do to a shoulder injury.

The Wildcats have played two more games than the Terrier and yet still have the same amount of wins. Bu's recored is 3-6-0 and the UNH is 3-6-2. The Wildcat wins have come against Northeastern (4-2) Maine (5-2) and Umass (4-2). They have also tied Miami of Ohio and Boston College.

The Last Time They Met
The last time BU took the ice to play UNH was in the 2009 Northeast Regional final in Manchester New Hampshire. The Terriers won this game 2-1 with 14.4 seconds to go. BU was on the power play when Jason Lawrence tried to slide the puck over to Colin Wilson but the puck never made it to Wilson. UNH D-man Kevin Kapstad tried to nock the puck out of the goal moth but failed and the puck hit his hand and went in. With that win the Terriers went on to the Frozen Four where they won their 5th national championship.

Wednesday's Injury Report -Updated-

Through the nine games played this season the Terriers have been slammed with injury's. This weeks report is shorter but still very concerning. Most of the players on the list should be ready to go this weekend.

Chris Connolly
Earlier this week Connolly was named the Hockey East player of the week for his four point weekend against Merrimack. Now it is doubtful we will see him over this weekend. During Mondays practice Connolly separated his shoulder. Connolly skated today in practice and then left the ice 15 minutes later and watch the rest from the bench with an ice rap over his left shoulder.

Colby Cohen
Cohen left in the middle of Wednesday's practice with a lower body injury. Parker said that it "probably nothing" and expects him to play over the weekend.

David Warsofsky
Warsofsky missed three of the last four game with an injury to his adductor muscle in his hip. he sain that it feels 100% and he expects to play over the weekend. The one game Warsofsky played in was against Maine back on November 8th. Parker said after the Maine game that "he wasn't physically ready to play"

Grant Rollheiser
Grant played in his first game of the season in last Saturdays 6-4 win over Merrimack. He could get the start on Friday at New Hampshire, but Parker will wait how he feels tomorrow.

Alex Chiasson & Nick Bonino
I know that I said that Chiasson came back last weekend. i was wrong he did not play in any of the action last weekend. This weekend Chiasson and Bonino will be back. Both participated in full contact rills and should be good to go on Friday.

Weekend Review, Terriers Split With Merrimack

There were a lot of positives and a lot of negatives to come out of the weekend split with Merrimack.

Positives
- Terriers get Nick Bonino, Grant Rollheiser and Alex Chiasson back from their respective injury's.
- The Terriers finally end their four game losing streak with an offensive explosion in Saturday' contest when BU scored a season high six goals to beat Merrimack 6-4.
- Bu also ended their even strength goal drought when the they scored four of them in the first period on Saturday.
- Grant Rollheiser plays in his first game of the season and made 25 saves.
- Sophomore Ross Gaudet and freshman Max Nicastro (photo) each recored their first collegiate goals
- Cory Trivino scored his first goal of the season in Fridays 6-3 loss.

Negatives
- Terriers Lose their fourth straight game on Friday the 13th to unranked Merrimack 6-3
- Bu could not score on two five on three opportunity's in the first and third periods of Friday's game
- According to Parker the Terriers "stopped competing" in the second period on Friday
- Merrimack scored five straight goals on the Terriers
- Millan was pulled from fridays game in place of Adam Kraus (photo). This was only the second time that Millan has ever been pulled from a game. The last was when he gave up three straight goals to Umass. The Terrier would come back and win that game 6-3.
- The Terrier took some very stupid penalty's in both games
- Bu had a 4-0 lead in Saturdays game and then let the Warriors come with in one shot of tieing the game.

Blog Changes
I just added five more college hockey websites to the side bar on the right. They include The Terrier Hockey Fan blog  and the Boston Hockey Blog. Which is a blog about Boston Bruins and the Terriers. Others are the Boston Globe and Boston Herald's college hockey section.

Like A Rolling Stone

Last night the Terriers got back to their winning ways when they scored a season high six goals to beat Merrimack 6-4 at home. Goaltender  Grant Rollheiser (photo)  came back from his high ankle sprain and earned his first win since the last regular season game last year when he shot out Providence College 3-0.

In the first the Terriers took the lead just 44 seconds in to the game. Chris Connolly found the puck on the right wing boards and passed it over to Kevin Shatenkirk who found the back of the net while Merrimack goaltender Joe Cannata was being screened. Two minutes later Ross Gaudet pick up his first collegiate goal when Eric Gryba was able to keep the puck in the zone and then found Gaudet who beat Cannata again through a screen. With about seven Minutes left in the first Simon Demers gave up a poor turnover which resulted in a two-on-one with Connolly and Bonino. Connolly scored on a one timer from Bonino to make the score three nothing Terriers. Bu was not done yet in the first. Max Nicastro also picked up his first goal in a Terrier Uniform when he got the puck on the boards and  took a shot that beat Cannata to make the score four nothing Terriers at the and of the first.

The second period was a whole different story.
“We self-destructed two ways tonight. We took a lot of stupid penalties. And it was disheartening: We’re up 4-0, and we start making foolish, foolish decisions with the puck.”- Jack Parker.
Merrimack got on the board first in the second when Brandon Brodhag scored on the power play when he tipped a shot that beat Rollheiser. Merrimack would slash the Terrier lead to 4-2 when Stephane Da Costa had plenty of time of take a slap shot in which he found the back of the net. Bu regained a three goal lead when Colby Cohen scored on one timer during a 5-3 power play. Jack Parker put it best "It was a bomb". That made it 5-2 Terriers at the end of the second period.

In the Third, Merrimack made it very close. After Zach Cohen nailed the post, Merrimack's Eliot Sheen scored on the next rush. This made it 5-3 Terriers. Merrimack cut the lead to one on a five on three power play of their own. Stephene Da Costa made a great pass to Joe Cucci who had all six feet of the net to shoot at. Chris Connolly put the icing on the cake when he scored an empty net goal with 7.1 seconds left and gave Bu a 6-4 victory.

Next weekend the Terriers and the Wild Cats of the University of New Hampshire will split a home in home series.

Hit The Panic Button

Last night the Terriers dropped their fourth straight game, this one coming against Merrimack College. It was the first time that Merrimack has beaten BU since 2004.

In the first, the Terriers had a 5-3 for a whole 2 minutes and could not score. This would be the story of the game. The Terriers did grab a 1-0 lead on a 5-4 power play when Wade Megan picked up a rebound in front of the net and buried it in the bottom left corner. This was Megan's first Collegiate goal. That would be the only lead of the night that the Terrier would have. With less than three minutes left in the period, Merrimack's Brandon Brodhag tied the game on a rebound that was sitting in front of Bu goaltender Kieran Millan. Brodhag got the rebound and then scored.

Jack Parker put it best "The second period was the beginning of the end for us". Parker also added "We stopped competing in the second". 54 seconds into the period the Warrior's Simon Demers Set up Stephane Da Costa with a perfect pass into the middle of the slot where Da Costa took a slap shot that beat Millan. Five minutes later Elliot Sheen created a play that lead to Matt Moulakelis jamming the puck past Millan. This made the score 3-1 Merrimack at the end of the second period.

The third period was where it just became hard to watch. Merrimack made it 4-1 and scored their first power play goal of the night. Joe Cucci was screening Millan and while that was happening, Fraser Alen slid it over to Kyle Bigos who then beat Millin who never got a look at the puck. Only twenty-two second later Elliott Sheen gave Merrimack a 5-1 lead, their biggest of the night.

After Sheen's goal, Terrier coach Jack Parker pulled Millan and put in Adam Kraus.

After Millan was pulled, things got very ugly. Colby Cohen (photo) and Matt Moulakelis each received 10 minute game misconducts for a fight that broke out with about 10 minutes left in the game. Both players will miss Saturday's game.

Vinny Saponari and the Terriers would get back one back on the power play.

Merrimack would get a sixth goal when Brandon Broghag poked the puck past Adam Kraus. This was Broghag's second goal of the game and the final Merrimack goal.

Before the end of the game, Cory Trivino scored his first goal of the year again on the power play. The goal would have been a highlight reel goal if the game was not so out of hand.

The two teams will go at it again, tonight at Agganis Arena.

Injury Report -Updated -

Alex Chiasson a freshman and the teams leading goal scorer, was injured in practice on wednesday. This happend when defenseman Eric Gryba hit Chaisson with a shoulder in the chin. Chaisson was down for a good five minutes before he skated off the ice under his own power with only a bloody chin. Jack Parker said after practice that it is unlikely that Chaisson will play in Fridays game Against Merrimack. But then latter Parker added that we will have to see how he feels tomorrow.

David Warsofsky's hip injury forced him to miss practice yesterday. After practice was over he Parker said that he dose expect Warsofsky to play in Merrimack game ether. Parker also noted that he probable should not have play Warsofsky in last Sunday's game against Maine because he "wasn't physically ready to play"

Luck Popko left Tuesday's practice with a sprain in his back. Popko was feeling better on Wednesday and Parker said that he will play on Friday.

Nick Bonino, who Dislocated his shoulder back on October 24, will not play in Fridays game but the is a chance the assistant captain could see action in saturdays game.
“We don’t know yet,” Parker said. “Probably not, but it all depends on what the doc says. The doctor will see him Saturday.”
Goaltender Grant Rollheiser, who has not seen any action this season including the preseason, could be back this weekend. Rollheiser suffered a high-ankle-sprain over the summer while he was at the Toronto Maple Leafs prospect camp.
“If he’s 100 percent physically, then he has to get in game shape. He looks pretty good in practice to me, so the sooner we get him in there, the better off we’ll be. It’ll be good to get him a game and get him back in the lineup, but it’ll also be good to give [sophomore goalie Kieran] Millan a little rest.”

Terriers Fall to Maine in a Close One

One more goal, thats all the Terriers would have needed in every loss this season (other than the Notre Dame game) to tie the game. Last night was no different. The Terriers fell 3-2 to unranked Maine in Alfond Arena in Orono Maine.

In the first Maine took a 1-0 lead on a 5 on 3 power play goal from Jeff Dimmen. 5 seconds after the play shifted to even strength, Gustav Nyquist chased down the puck behind the Terrier goal and rapped the puck into the net before Millain could slide over to the other side. It took the Black Bears only 1:24 to take a 2-0 lead on the Terriers. Before the end of the first the Terriers would get one back. On the power play Freshman and the team's leading goal scoring Alex Chiasson (photo) took a pass from Cory Trivino and slid it past Maine goalie Scott Darling

In the second Maine Sophomore Spencer Abbott Scored the game winning goal. Abbott scored off a centering pass from Nyquist and then put the puck past Bu goalie Kieran Millan to make the score 3-1 Maine. The score would stay that way till the third when the Terriers would make things interesting. Bu went on the power play and Chris Connolly cut the Maine lead to one with with seven minutes to go. But it proved to be to little to late and the Black Bears of Maine went on to win the game by a score of 3-2.

With the loss the Terriers fall to 2-5-0. Next weekend Bu will split a home in home series with Hockey East bottom feeders the Warriors of Merrimack University.

The Terriers are coming off what coach Parker said was the teams best game all season a 1-0 lose to the Huskys of the University of Northeastern.

The Last Time They Played
The last meeting between the black Bears and Terriers was in the Hockey East Play-off last season in late March. The Terriers won the game 6-2 and moved on to the Hockey East Semi finals in which the Terriers beat Boston College. The 6-2 victory was the last game play at the Agganis Arena last season.

Questionable Call leads NU past BU

Despite the loss, the Terriers most likely played their best game of the season. BU's  defense held the Huskys to only 19 shots the entire game. But than again it only took a controversial interference call on freshman Alex Chiasson and one juicy rebound. From that juicy rebound came the only goal of the game, off the stick of Wade Macleod, who received a pass from the one who got the rebound Jack Newton.Thats all the Huskys needed to top the Terriers 1-0 in front of a sellout crowd at Matthew Arena .

The Terriers had their chances to win the game. The had tallied the most shots in one game all season with 43. The Terriers all so seemed to turn the face-off around by winning 39 of 69 draws last night. But
The star of the night was Northeastern freshman goalie Chris Rawlings, who saved every thing the Terriers through his way.
“I’ve never experienced anything like this in my life. I can’t even explain it, it was unbelievable, I was thinking about it all week in practice what kind of things they do and going over stuff with my goalie coach. It was a big game and I stepped up to the challenge.” - Chris Rawlings
The Terriers will try and turn things around and get of this two game losing slid up in Maine on Sunday.

Game day Preview: Bu @ Northeastern

Tonights game will be the first time the Terriers have been back to the almost 100 year old Matthew's Arena since a 1-1 tie last year in late February. Coming off one of the best seasons in school history the Husky's are 2-3 this season. The two wins came against unranked Colorado College (who are now ranked) and unranked Bentley. The Terriers are also 2-3 but every team the Terriers have  played were against ranked teams. Some injurys cold have a big impact on tonights game. David Warsofsky could miss the game with a adductor muscle in his hip. Some others who could miss the game are Wade Megan (there death in his family) and Nick Bonino will miss the game with a dislocated right shoulder. The Terriers lead the all time series 144-50-8 with the first meeting between the two teams way back in 1931 at the US olympic tryouts. The Terriers won the game 4-3.

What happened last year
Last season the Terriers and Husky's met four times and battled for the regular season title the entire season. the Terriers one the league championship on the last day of the season with a 3-0 win over Providence College. In all four meetings last season the Terriers got the first goal of the game and the Husky's never once had a lead in any of the games. Over all the Terriers won the series 2-0-1. In my mined the best game was the Beanpot Championship game. Half way through the third the Terriers where up 3-2  on the penalty kill when David Worsofsky and Colin Wilson both scored short handed goal on the same Northeastern power play. click here for a video of the game

David Warsofsky
Warsofsky will most likely miss Fridays game at Northeastern with a injured adductor muscle in his hip. Warsofsky was named Hockey East player of the week after a great weekend of play against the Lowell River Hawks. Warsofsky has been skating with the team in practice but has to stay out of the contacted drills. Freshman Ben Rosen will play for Warsofsky if he is unable to go on Friday.

Wade Megan (not and injury)
Freshman Wade Megan could miss Fridays game because of a death in his family. Coach Parker said that if the freshman is not at practice today than he will miss the game. Parker that it is not a punishment but that if Wade missed practice than he just would not be prepared for the game.

 Nick Bonino
Bonino's dislocated right shoulder is self proclaimed "feeling great". Bonio has been Skating in practice but  again no contacted drills. look to see Bonino bak in  the line up some time next week.

Split Decision

Game One- at the Tsongas Arena Lowell mass
There was not much to talk about in the first period.
In the second the Terriers took the lead when freshman Alex Chaisson stole the puck in the neutral zone, crossed the blue line and ripped a shot into the top right corner. Soon after, the River Hawks tied the game when Paul Worthington scored off a missed shot that hit the ever so springy back boards of the Tsongas Arena. The puck then  found his stick with nothing but net in front of him. Four minutes later on a Lowell power play, the Terriers Chris Connolly and David Warsofsky (photo) had a two on one brake.  Connolly made a pass to Warsofsky who then beat River Hawks goalie Carter Hutton's blocker side. Before the end of the period the River hawks would tie the game and then go ahead to take a 3-2 lead into the final frame.
Just 1:49 seconds into the third the Terriers tie the game up once again. This time it was Zach Cohen who took what seemed to be a weak wrist shot that that hit the shoulder of Carter Hutton and landed in the back of the net. Terriers would regain the lead on another goal by David Warsofsky. Once again the resilient River Hawks tied the game. This time was rather an odd play. The original shot By Nick Schaus made it all the way past Millain and hit the post. Off that rebound Matt Ferreira passed it back to Schaus who then scored. The game was tied and for the first time since the national championship game, the Terriers where going to overtime.
Early in the overtime hard working Joe Perira  drew a tripping call. This put the Terriers on the power play and set the stage for Colby Cohen. Kevin Shattenkirk had the puck at the point and passed it over to a wide open Colby Cohen. He wasted no time taking a one timer that Carter Hutton never saw. The reason Hutton didn't see the shot, was because David Warsofsky was screening Hutton. This allowed him to find the back of the net.

“Good screen by Dave, good pass by ‘Schatty’ and a little luck on the shot, Good job by the power play unit to get out there and work it. I mean, a lot of times in overtime you get too excited, but you know we settled it down and we won the puck battles and ultimately led to a shot with a good screen.”-Colby Cohen
Game two- Agganis Arena Boston Mass
This time it was the River Hawks that got on the board first. It was Michael Scheu on the power play that jump stared the River Hawks. The Best action of the game came in the second period when Vinny Saponari scored his first goal of the season. He scored off a David Warsofsky shot that hit the end boards  and bounced out in front where Wade Megen also got denied. Off the Megen rebound Saponari (photo) then sdcored to tie the game at one all. Just 43 seconds later the tie the game off a Chris Auger goal. At 13:49 of the second Lowell made the score 3-1 when Ben Holmstrom fond some room over the glove of Kieran Millan.
“It was just a power play,We work it around like we try to. It went from up top to the flank and [Kory] Falite got a shot off. It came off the goalie’s chest and landed in front. I just tried to get it over his net, and it snuck over his glove.”- Ben Holmstrom
The Terriers would make things worth watching late in the second. On the power play, Alex Chiasson found the puck in the corner and then through it off the boards to D-man Kevin Shattenkirk. Captain Kevin then wound up and took a bomb that that beat Lowell goalie Nevin Hamilton.
