Yesterday Zach Cohen (photo) singhed an entry level contract with the Avalanche. He is not expected to join the Av's and will instead play for their AHL team the Lake Erie Monsters, coached by for BU standout and associate head coach, David Quinn.
Cohen struggled through the first few years of his time at BU. Last year, Parker almost cut him but thanks to then captain Matt Gilroy, he stayed with the team. In the national championship game, last season, scored one of the most important goals in BU history. With 54 seconds left in the game he found a louse rebound and roofed it cutting Miami's lead to one. 20 seconds later BU would ti e the game and then win the National Championship in overtime. This year he was one of the leading scores on the team and was one of the main factors in BU second half comeback.
A special connection
That's what BU and the Av's have. Currently there are two former Terriers on Colorado, Brandon Yip and their head chach Joe Sacco, who played with BU in the '90s. In the comming years there could be as many and three or four former Terriers on the Av's. Kevin Shattenkirk and Colby Cohen are both picks of Colorado from the 2007 draft. Shatt was the 14th pick in that draft, while Cohen was the 44th. Last season Colorado took BU's curent netminder, Keiran Millan.
